My name is Karolinka, and I was born in 2009. Right after my birth, I was diagnosed with Down syndrome, a heart defect, hypothyroidism, and duodenal atresia. To help my heart function, a pacemaker was implanted to regulate its rhythm — without it, my heart would not be able to beat on its own.

A few years ago, doctors also diagnosed me with a developmental defect of the spine — a dislocation of the odontoid process. At the Children’s Health Center in Warsaw, I underwent a major surgery to stabilize the C1–C2 vertebrae. Unfortunately, due to severe pressure from the odontoid on my spinal cord, I developed respiratory failure. Since then, I have a tracheostomy and rely on a ventilator every day to live.

As a result of my illness, I also have quadriplegia. I require constant care, regular rehabilitation, and support from many specialists — a neurologist, cardiologist, urologist, and physiotherapist. Every day is a struggle for breath, for movement, and for a better tomorrow.

Unfortunately, the costs of treatment, rehabilitation, and specialized care far exceed my parents’ financial capabilities. That is why we are reaching out with a heartfelt request for help and support, which will allow me to continue fighting for my health and life.
